We are living in a critical time in earth’s history and the church’s history. The world is poised on the edge of a tremendous crisis. The church also is in a desperate Laodicean condition. We think we are rich and in need of nothing, and yet we are poor, miserable, blind & naked. For nearly 180 years we have been awaiting the Lord’s return and many of us have grown tired of waiting. Many of us have made the world and its objectives of greater importance than the truth. We live as if the world is never going to end, and like we need to live a rich full life – with all the cars, houses, jobs and money that everyone else has in the world. We have all fallen asleep, and as the 10 virgins slept, we have slept, until our lamps have gone low or completely out. But friends, it’s time to wake up from our slumber. The Bridegroom cometh, and we, like the virgins awaiting His coming, must be aroused to trim our lamps.

Many Adventists have forgotten the history of our Seventh-day Adventist heritage – the way God has led those who awaited the Lord’s coming until they were disappointed, but who clung to God’s word and did not give up their faith, but searched the Scriptures daily for truth as for hidden treasure. This same search, this same faith that will not let go of God, is what is needed today. We need to return to our roots, to the faith that we once believed, and to faith in the Spirit of Prophecy and full surrender to the Truth of God’s word. Unfortunately, the Spirit of Prophecy is truly being made of none effect, and as a result, our faith has been changed. We pray that within the pages of this book, you will find a renewed interest in the final events before us, and in God’s Word and in the testimony of Jesus which is the Spirit of Prophecy.
